My name is Ducarmel Sekou Desormeau, I am a licensed massage and movement therapist with over ten years experience in the healing arts and Qigong. My first encounter with Qigong was through a coworker who practiced the art with Falan Dafa in NYC in the late nineties. She was fascinated with the positive health benefits gained from her practice and invited to take a class. Although I liked the class, I was more drawn to music and dance. My journey as a movement artist began in 1999 with my discovery of Capoeira Angola, an Afro-Brazilian martial arts that combines dance, acrobatics, fighting techniques, music and spirituality. I studied in NYC with the legendary Mestre Joao Grande from Bahia, Brazil.

My Qigong practice was refueled once again when I began training with C. Mestre Chicago, an amazing Capoeira teacher who learned the art form while living in China. Since relocating to South Florida in 2010, I have taken workshops with Jeff Primack of Supreme Science Qigong and I have been fortunate to connect with Dr George X Love, a 30 year Qigong Master and Acupuncture Physician from the lineage of Blue Dragon Qigong family. I continue to study Medical Qigong and various Qigong dances with Dr Love.

Qigong is an ancient Chinese holistic healthcare system that combines postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. There are hundreds of forms of Qigong practice that have been developed in different parts of China during various historic periods. Practices vary from the soft internal styles such as Tai Chi to the external, vigorous styles like Kung Fu. Like dance styles, within the hundreds of Qigong schools you can move in other ways besides smooth slow motion movements. There are techniques which involve shaking, vibrating, squatting and swaying.
The combination of self awareness with proper posture and the flow of breath, the movement of the body and stillness of the mind create the atmosphere to activate the natural self healing capacity of the body. Qigong practitioners are able to recharge and restore vitality to the endocrine glands so that they naturally begin to function optimally and upgrade their hormone production and release. A key underlying philosophy of the practice is that Qigong has an effect on the cultivation of balance and harmony of Qi, positively influencing the human energy system.

Through my passion for the art, I created Lemba Movement Therapy. A system based on the slow rhythmic movements of Qigong and Capoeira Angola. The loosening and stretching exercises increase circulation and physical coordination keeping the blood and energy channels open. And the rhythmic movement strengthens muscles and tendons, dissolves blocks, improves flexibility, posture and increases energy leaving the practitioner feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. The Lemba Movement Therapy program is interactive, fun and easy to learn. As a movement artist, I have worked with various high schools, universities, cultural arts organizations, spas and fitness clubs. I am dedicated to share my passion for health and wellness through the art of massage, movement and sound.
